Valley Cottage woman found stabbed to death, likely knew perpetrator

Clarkstown – The death of Valley Cottage resident Peggy Nadell, 81, who was found with a knife wound at her 644 Andover Road home on Saturday morning, is being investigated as a homicide by Clarkstown Police.

According to police, Nadell was found by her daughter Suzanne Scaccio shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. It is believed her death took place sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.

Following an autopsy, the cause of death was determined to be “homicidal violence.”

Clarkstown Police Sgt. Joanne Fratianni stated in a press release that no signs of forced entry were found and it is believed the perpetrator probably knew Nadell.

“The Clarkstown Police Department believes that this is an isolated incident and that there is no further danger to the community at this time,” Fratianni said.

Nadell was known locally as an active volunteer for the Jewish Community Center and the Clarkstown Democrats, where she served as a committeewoman. Friends and neighbors, including members of the Clarkstown Democrats, described her as a hardworking and enthusiastic woman who did not have any enemies.
