They don’t fire guns, they fire people instead.

The Journal News Media Group publisher Janet Hasson was handed the grim task of laying off 26 employees, including 17 members of her own newsroom, due to new workforce shrinkage demanded by her corporate bosses at Gannett.

The left-leaning newspaper reduced total employment from 232 to 206 in the move.

“The reduction in our payroll is necessary as we adjust to the changing marketplace,” Hasson said, promising “we will remain the number one news organization in the Lower Hudson Valley with more than 60 reporters and photographers on the street every day.”
