The Haverstraw Collaborative will host a “Senior Senior Prom” at the Central Presbyterian Church of Haverstraw on May 3 from 4-6 p.m., presenting an event where North Rockland seniors can relive some of their favorite memories from their youth.
The prom will have a “Hooray for Hollywood” theme, meaning clips from classic films will be shown throughout the night on a big screen. The event will also feature a red carpet walk with volunteers taking photographs for attendees, dinner, giveaways, written journals for each table, a DJ and dancing.
“The seniors of North Rockland and the county in general have given so much to the community that we really thought it was time to give back to them,” Haverstraw Collaborative member Dina Nejman said.
According to Nejman, the “42 Club” assisted the Haverstraw Collaborative for the event and fundraising goals were met with little difficulty. The bill for the event will be footed entirely by the community organizations, so seniors will have the opportunity to attend free of charge.
The Haverstraw Collaborative is a group of nonprofits which coordinates cooperative efforts to meet community needs. In the past, they have sponsored other programs for seniors, including a program where Haverstraw kids conducted interviews of seniors in an effort to connect younger and older generations.
