110K in state grants for local libraries

New City Free Library and the Valley Cottage Free Library will receive over $100,000 in public library construction grant funding. The grants will allow the libraries to make renovations, giving them the opportunity to enhance and develop their facilities.

The New City Free Library will receive $67,000 for renovations to the audio/visual area, allowing all materials to be used by the public and merchandise the collections in order to increase effectiveness. The Valley Cottage Free Library will receive $43,000 to promote greater energy conservation and reduce costs, as well as update parking lot lighting with energy efficient LED fixtures and replace a 30-year-old boiler.

The grants were procured through the public library construction grant program, which allots money annual for library projects. In 2012, $14 million was available that library districts applied for through a competitive grant process.
