Philomena Begley, Queen Of Irish Country Music, Starring at Emmett’s Castle

BY GEORGE J. DACRE

Emmett, himself, is flying back from Ireland as we write and Jeannette Davis says it’s going to be a grand celebration all week at the Castle on Blue Hills golf course in Pearl River. It’s the week of St. Patrick’s Day after all, and flying in from Miami will be Philomena Begley, Queen of Irish Country music, for a performance Saturday, March 17 from 7 p.m.to midnight.

Begley, from County Tyrone, has done the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Carnegie Hall, New York City and London’s Albert Hall. The Castle Irish Pub and Restaurant, set amid Blue Hill’s rolling hills, is reminiscent of the Irish countryside.

The Castle’s Irish St. Patrick’s Day celebration kicks off Thursday, March 15, with a “Once Off Pub Quiz” with Quizmaster John Lowry. Then from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m an Irish jam session with local musicians. Saturday, March 17, St. Patrick’s Day from 12 noon to 7 p.m. traditional Irish music. 7 p.m. to midnight a performance by Benny Gallagher and Philomena Begley, the Queen of Irish Country music.

Sunday, March 18, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Hudson Valley Pipe Band and 4 to 8 p.m. the Michael O”Sullivan Band with the Latimer Brothers. Safe rides, to and from the Castle, are being offered to local residents with reservations required. For information and reservations call Jeannette Davis at 845-735-3504 or emmettscastle.com.
